Per request of the coaches I took down the rankings from the site. I would like to post team previews for each of the teams if possible. So if coaches wanted to email me a quick paragraph that I could post on the site it would be greatly appreciated. I'm basically looking for what starters are returning, who graduated, what impact players you added and anything else you wanted to include. You can send all submissions to my email (isltennis@gmail.com). I'm not expecting 100% participation but it would be nice to get as many as possible.
I'm looking to add more content to the site so it would be a huge help if people could send me team photos or action photos or even videos. Even camera phone photos will be appreciated, you can email them to me or post them on the facebook fan page. I look forward to a fun season this year!
There are a few new additions to the ISL tennis scene who should do some damage this year.
Carl Reid, '14, Belmont Hill
I'm not sure exactly where he'll end up in their lineup but he should have a lot of competition within his team because Belmont Hill has a lot of strong returning players. He's currently ranked 10th in USTA New England 16 and Under Division.
Cam Chapman, '14, Nobles
Ranked 14th in the 16 and Under Division in New England, Cam will likely play in the top two or three for Nobles. He's not very big but he has a very strong baseline game so take him seriously.
Once or twice a month there will be a post updating the MVP race. As we go into the season a few players stand out in my mind as early favorites to win MVP. This list is in no particular order.
Andrew Lebovitz, '10, Milton
He was the strongest number 2 in the league last year and because Noah Bragg is not playing this year he' s guaranteed the number 1 spot for Milton.
Nate Collins, '10, Governor's
Nate's a strong player and although his team has not won too many matches in recent years he's had a lot of success. This will be his fourth year playing number 1.
Peter Yanofsky, '10, Belmont Hill
He should have plenty of competition for the number 1 spot within his own team but I expect him to have a very strong season. His serve is very difficult to deal with on Belmont Hill's lightning fast courts.
Richie Robbie, '11, Thayer
I can't remember the last time a junior won MVP but Richie has improved a lot in the past few years and it's not far fetched to think he has a shot. His problem is that as someone who's not a senior he needs to dominate the league or the award will go to a graduating player.
Andrew Lebovitz, Milton Academy
Committed to Middlebury College to play for Coach Dave Schwarz and the reigning NESCAC champion panthers.
Cam Lovett-Woodsum, BB&N
Committed to Amherst College, the reigning division 3 national finalist.
Nate Collins, Governor's Academy
Committed to play division 1 tennis at Furman University under the reign of coach Paul Scarpa.
Send all commitments to me via email (isltennis@gmail.com)
Most Valuable Player
Tom Darling, Senior, Thayer
Without a doubt Tom was the strongest player in the league. He didn't drop a set the entire season and arguably should have won the award his junior year after beating Alex Skinner and having the strongest record. Tim Chang of Nobles came closest to ending his perfect season but fell in a tight second set tiebreak 8-6. Tom is playing tennis at Elon this year.
